Rumblings from the Nation's Capital
by Guy C. Carey
I recently had the opportunity to watch a new video documentary by George Otis of The Sentinel Group called "Transformations." This one-hour documentary highlights four cities in the world where the presence of God has transformed the entire community. The testimony of those who have watched these cities change through the power of God is overwhelming. As I listened, my heart filled with faith and my eyes filled with tears.
We heard how the spirit of witchcraft was broken in Almolonga, Guatemala. The result is that the city is in excess of 80% Christian, all the jails are closed, and all but 3 bars have closed. The ground, which once yielded little produce, is now producing fruit of supernatural proportions; for example, carrots as big as a man's forearm. The entire town is under the influence of the manifest presence of God. The story is recounted for Cali, Columbia, Hemet, California, and Kimbu, Kenya as well, all present-day occurrences of communities in transformation as the result of God's presence touching these cities.
The nation's capital is just 30 minutes south of where I pen this article. My heart questions heaven, "Why not here, why not us, why not now?" There are many of us in the capital region who sense a mighty prophetic wind blowing over us. From Baltimore south through Maryland, and from Northern Virginia north to D.C., the fire of God is falling. Two keys which George Otis documents as being present in almost every community he studied in the process of transformation by the presence of God are 1) persevering leadership, and 2) united fervent prayer.
This does not refer to the revival of a household, or the re-igniting of a church whose candle has gone dim. I speak of the manifest glory of Almighty God, Creator of the Universe, settling upon an entire city or region, souls coming to Christ in great numbers, explosive Church growth, and the release of miraculous power in the streets. I'm talking about the kind of impact on a city that is evidenced in Acts 8, where Philip was used by God to touch a whole region, and the word says, "There was much rejoicing in that city."
Can you believe for your city? Can you believe for your nation's capital? Will you believe for God's presence to transform the United States of America? This is not some pipe dream. Our heavenly Father has transformed whole nations in the past by a move of His Holy Spirit, and He will do it again! Nothing but the presence and power of God's precious Holy Spirit released across this nation is going to change our current course.
Here in the capitol region of Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia, we are seeing the signs of just that kind of outpouring of God's life. Like farmers looking upon the seeded field, we await the tender shoots of years of intercession over this nation. 24-hour prayer watches are rising up, 7 days a week, 365 days a year; in united prayer focus, God's people are praying for our nation's capital. The wind of the Spirit is beginning to birth a vision for the Tabernacle of David to be established, where 24 hours a day, every day, songs of praise and worship will rise before the King of Kings. Evangelistic fervor is stirring in the hearts of once complacent Christians. Homes are declaring themselves Lighthouses of Prayer, where they pray for neighbors and look for divine appointments to share the gospel with friends and neighbors. These are signs that God is about to release a mighty outpouring of His Spirit.
Will we catch this new wind, or will it spill out of our sails? Can we prepare for revival and community transformation? I believe the answer is yes. Each of us can individually respond to the Father's drawing to prayer and worship. We can cultivate a tender heart toward God so we can respond in faith to His every command. May our hearts be soft and responsive like Mary, who said, "Behold, the bondslave of the Lord; be it done to me according to your word." May our hearts truly believe that "nothing will be impossible with God." (Luke 1:37)
We can corporately ask the Father to link us with people of like heart and mind, with whom we can join in the prayer of agreement, crying out, "Maranatha, Lord Jesus. Come." We can look for divine appointments to allow the life of God in us to seek to save the lost soul of someone wandering in darkness. The Father is seeking to save. He longs to set captives free. Let us open our hearts and lives to this transforming power of God. Let us believe and labor to see His Kingdom established in our home, church, community, and nation.
Respond today. Take a moment right now and pray. Dear Father, I open my heart to your transforming power, and believe that nothing is impossible for you. Please plant in me the seed of faith to believe you for the transformation of my life, home, community, and nation into a dwelling for Your glory. Change me and all those I love into all you have destined for us to be. Start today. Amen!
