Healing Through The Lord's Prayer - “Hallowed Be Thy Name”
by Dotty Schmitt
I. JEHOVAH (YAHWEH): “I AM THAT I AM” (Gen. 2:4; Exodus 3:14,15; Exodus 6:2-4)
This is the NAME most often used in the Old Testament (6,823 times). Jehovah “vitally” linked to His covenant promise to the elect. (EX 34:5-7) Jehovah is the expression of God's being, (since He is also Love, Holiness, Righteousness, and Justice, and must therefore judge evil and unrighteousness wherever it is found). “Not until redemption out of Egypt, when he gave the law, and said, 'Be ye holy, for I am holy' was the full import of the name 'JEHOVAH' revealed to Israel.” --Andrew Jukes
- Hebrews 1:3 - Jesus reveals Jehovah (cf. John)
- Colossians 1:15 - Jesus is the image of Jehovah
- Isaiah 53:9 - Jesus bears the sin of all of humanity. “Jehovah suffers as only righteous Love can suffer.”
- Exodus 33:18-23; 34:5-8 - Jehovah proclaims His name (nature, character) to Moses.
II. JEHOVAH - COMPOUND NAMES
"Most of these compound names of God arise out of some historic incident, and portray Jehovah in some aspect of His character as meeting human need." --Nathan Stone

III. PSALM 23
Study Psalm 23 in light of the various revealed names of God. Note that the most likely background for this Psalm is found in I Sam. 20-26. This Psalm was written in the midst of much pressure, turmoil, and difficulty. Psalm 27 was written about the same time. (cf. Rev. 7:17, John 10).
The Lord is my Shepherd (Jehovah-raah)
I shall not want, (Jehovah-Jireh)
He (Jehovah-shalom) makes me lie down in green pastures,
He (Jehovah-shalom) leads me beside quiet waters.
He (Jehovah-rapha) restores my soul,
He (Jehovah-tsidkenu) guides me in the paths of righteousness
for HIS NAME'S SAKE.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I fear no evil; for Thou (Jehovah-shamah) art with me;
Thy (Jehovah-raah) rod and Thy staff, they comfort me.
Thou (Jehovah-nissi) dost prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies,
Thou (Jehovah-mekoddishkem) hast anointed my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life,
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord (Jehovah) forever.
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High (El Elyon - Gen. 14:18) will abide in the shadow of the Almight (El Shaddai - Gen. 17:1). I will say to the LORD, (Yahweh/Jehovah - Ex. 3:14) “My refuge and my fortress, my God, (Elohim - Gen. 1:1; Col. 1:16) in whom I trust.” For it is HE who delivers you...” PSALM 91:1-3a.
