Katrina Relief For Local Families
Washington, D.C. October 20, 2005
Immanuel’s Church has been working with the Columbia Shaw Collaborative of Washington D.C. to contact and support families affected by the Katrina hurricane and originally housed in the Stadium Armory. Of the 18 families that were originally identified the Shaw Collaborative has placed 14 families in apartments and acquired an additional 12 families. It is expected that the remainder of the families will be placed by the end of October. Thus far, Immanuel’s Church has provided generous Wal-Mart cards as start-up gifts to the original 18 families to enable them to buy some of the basic items needed in starting over.
Additionally we have solicited several families from within Immanuel’s Church who are willing to provide contact and support to the Katrina families during the upcoming holiday season. We expect to expand this extended outreach to offer the hands of Christ to our many neighbors in need. We will continue to advise you via this web site as to how you can best support us in this effort.
